Do I need permission to fell or prune a tree in London?
Possibly. Trees protected by a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) or standing in a conservation area need council consent before any work. Steve checks this for you before work begins and can advise on the application process, so you stay on the right side of your local authority.
How much does tree felling cost in London?
It depends on the size of the tree, access, and how much waste needs removing. As a rough guide, a small conifer may cost £200–£500 to fell, a medium tree £400–£800 and a large tree £800+. Are you qualified and insured?
Yes. Steve is an NPTC (City & Guilds) qualified tree surgeon carrying £5 million of public liability insurance, and all pruning is carried out in accordance with BS 3998:2010 – the British Standard for tree work.
Do you remove the waste after tree work?
Yes. Branches and brushwood are chipped on site and all waste is removed, leaving your garden tidy. Logs can be left cut for firewood on request, and stump grinding can be arranged as part of a felling job.

What is the difference between crown reduction, crown thinning and crown lifting?
Crown reduction reduces the overall size of the canopy to bring an overgrown tree back into shape. Crown thinning removes selected branches to let more light through without changing the tree’s outline. Crown lifting removes the lowest branches to create clearance above paths, lawns and flower beds.
